"IN THE GLITTER PALACE"
By Eva Szabo
AT LEAST A BEGINNING
American society today is literally forced by popular deviation to accept anything. Homosexuality, yours and my favorite deviation, has been recently in the public limelight. Some of our best literature is either gay-rooted or gay oriented. Motion pictures and television are now too, interested in the gay life. It seems in the past year homosexuality has especially rated prime-time television.
The majority of gay characters presented on television have been men. A silent but deadly ruling order has more or less decided that the gay male is easier to portray and comprehend than the gay female. The gay female more commonly known as the lesbian is too often misunderstood or ignored. Television has been in agreement with this trend up until Sunday February 27, 1977. On this glorious eve NBC presented "In The Glitter Palace."
her talents and the beauty of women living and loving women. So today, we, as any minority, objectively view representations of ourselves. We critically watch characters playacting the lives and emotions we live and feel 365 and then some, days a year.

television with tense, tangible emotion in extremely good taste. e.g. "Family," By all means sequences in "In the Glitter Palace" when the two lovers exchanged words, glances, and gestures were also in very good taste. My objection is mainly that the relationship was purposefully lowered in station, and underdeveloped. The highlight of the movie was no doubt the ending. "Score two points for our side," instead of a happy heterosexual couple walking away together into infinity, we had two women in love together and happy. I do believe the film in question was by all means a beginning in arousing Q Public to the existence and uniqueness of lesbian love. Of course the perfect sequel would be Movie: written by real life lesbian, starring real life lesbians, Point: truth, decency and a real variation of love...
Now, for "The Glitter Palace." The film by all means was a beginning. It was very carefully plotted murder case, or was it a movie pilot for Chad Everett, the lawyer, or could it have been a taste and justly so of two women in love? The first two choices are correct, the last, yet most important choice, simply goes undeveloped. I don't intend to be too satirical or bitter, merely disappointed. I personally have learned not to overexpect but The movie definitely lacked the sincere, unabashed emotion that was hidden backstage. The producers most certainly had a tangible lifestyle to portray, yet they allowed themselves to be too unoffensive. To compensate for their safety the producers centered on the age-old plot of honorable lawyer defending not So honorable but innocent client. An injustice was unduly committed and undeniably to it gay women. Why was necessary to lower the worth of a lesbian relationship, on a nationwide television, to a mere "She didn't do it" plot. The gay male relationship has successfully been portrayed on
For the media, a relationship between two men has been less of a taboo than the same type of relationship among two women. The reason for this taboo is primarily due to general public ignorance concerning gay women. The lesbian woman has I thrived on this ignorance and the privacy ignorance sometimes provides. Needless to say the lesbian today has energetically chosen to flaunt

} believe that there are enough concerned 'Gays' who also feel a deep need to organize in an effective manner. It can be done. In the beginning ACGCR will be a consciousness raising group so that we can grow together and thus build from our internal strength. We first must come to understand, respect, and love each other before we can even begin to consider stepping outside of the group, and involve ourselves with the many areas of activity which a Gay Liberation Group should and must confront. We must build from within and create a truly working community, then and only then, will we succeed and become positive and creative force here in Akron.
